about

The duo Redbrick Shithouse formed in Sheffield in 1986 and quickly wrote and recorded their signature tune, Everything, in a bedroom with a sink in it. Following the hiring and firing of a second guitarist and his exploding amp, a few further songs were written and immediately captured in the lowest fi way possible direct to C60. Failure to impress handpicked audiences did not deter the lads from also trying a couple of cover versions, stealing lyrics, but not tunes, from Robert Forster and Southside Johnny.

A breakthrough of sorts took place with the addition of a real musician, and the formation of Tom Violence. This band, deliberately named after, but sounding nothing like, Sonic Youth, made some attempt to record properly in a session in Romford in 1989. And that was that.

Until in 2020, time during the covid lockdown unearthed those long lost tapes, and one of the band's songs was accepted by the Italian label, Almost Halloween Time Records, for inclusion on its Portraits From The Quarantine compilation.

The positive feedback from that prompted further tracks to be sent to Recordiau Prin, a label the band knew and loved from its releases of Pulco and Tremolo Ghosts. Ash clearly heard something in both the rough Redbrick Shithouse demos and the The The inspired Tom Violence recordings to want to share them with the world. The band could not be happier or more surprised.

This really is everything we found.
