Delay Cycle: Becoming

by Goodparley

'It means that as he moves toward acceptance of the "is-ness" of himself, he accepts others. To use Kierkagaard's terms, "to be that self which one truly is" is not an easy direction to move, nor one which is ever completed. It is a continuing way of life.' - Carl Rogers, On Becoming a Person

'Jettisoning all reason, I mustered what strength I had left and forced myself into the ever-narrowing space. Every part of my body shrieked in pain. Yet I had to push forward, whatever the consequences. For everything around, me was the product of connectivity. Nothing was absolute. Pain was a metaphor. All was relative. Light was shadow, shadow was light. I had no choice but to believe. What else could I do?' - Haruki Murakami, Killing Commendatore

The album is a sonic experiment in the power of delay and its ability, sonically, to mimic the feeling of the repeated and ongoing shedding of emotional skin in the cyclical process of becoming a person.

It was written and recorded improvisationally over one day in May 2020.
